Super 4s League Challenge

England captain, Charlotte Edwards, smashed a record 199 not out on Saturday as she led her Super 4s team, Diamonds, to a 32-run victory over the Sapphires at Uppingham School. Edwards has now hit six centuries in the competition's five-year history, her previous highest was 124 not out in 2002. The Diamonds amassed a record total of 337-3 from 50 overs including a half century for Laura Joyce. Sapphires' captain Laura Newton hit 94 before being dismissed and England batsman Claire Taylor made a century in a game that produced the highest Super 4s totals so far. 

The second match on Saturday resulted in a draw (tie?) between Emeralds and Rubies. All-rounder Laura Harper made 52 and took 3-32 for the Emeralds while youngster Sarah Taylor hit 60 for the Rubies. 

On Sunday, the Emeralds beat the Diamonds by 17 runs. England all-rounder Jenny Gunn took 
4-32 off nine overs, while spinner Jo Watts returned figures of 3-28 and Hannah Lloyd hit 53 before being bowled by Gunn. 

The Sapphires won their game against the Rubies by three wickets. Sarah Taylor was on fine form again and struck 82 before being run out for the Rubies. Claire Taylor made 60 and Rosalie Birch found her form and struck 56. Vodafone Women's Player of the Year, Katherine Brunt, took 2-21 from her ten overs. 

After the first round of matches, the Emeralds are unbeaten and lead the table, whilst the Rubies are yet to win and are placed at the bottom with six points.
