Super 4s Twenty20 Challenge Review
England captain Charlotte Edwards' Diamonds were victorious in the Super 4s Twenty20 challenge
held at Loughborough University over the weekend beating Laura Newton's Sapphires in the Final
by 21 runs.
Nicky Shaw hit 62 not out for the Diamonds, while England medium-pacer Isa Guha claimed 3-23
from four overs.
Earlier in the day the Diamonds had beaten the Rubies by eight wickets to claim their place in the
Final. Edwards struck 67 in that game while Alexia Walker had a knock of 61 for the Rubies.
In the second game, the Sapphires defeated the Emeralds by 22 runs to make the Final. England
all-rounder Rosalie Birch was dropped off her first ball and went on to make 59 for the finalists. She
also took 2-19 from four overs. England's spearhead bowler, Katherine Brunt also took two wickets
for the Sapphires.
The Emeralds won the third-place play-off by nine wickets to come third overall. Laura Harper made
40 not out and Kelly Evenson took 3-9 from four overs to ease the Emeralds to victory.
The action continues next weekend at Uppingham School when the 50-over league matches start.
